Matthew started playing ukulele in his school in year 5 after the regular violin teacher fell ill and they needed a quick replacement instrument!

He discovered his passion for comical and fun music after being persuaded to listen to When I’m Cleaning Windows by George Formby. Other heroes include Madness, Bernard Cribbins, Chas & Dave and Bill Hailey.

After his first official public performance at the famous UNPLUGTHEWOOD  in Crondall December 2015, and his first paid gig at the Royal Oak in Yateley April 2016, Matthew’s act has grown and is now a regular face on the local music circuit.

The highlights of Matthew’s career include playing WEYFEST 2017, Isle of Wight Ukulele Festival 2016 and 2018, supporting artists like John Otway, Andy Eastwood and Pete Lincoln. In July 2018 Matthew recorded a track at Abbey Road Studios along with his college band and choir. Inspired by this he is currently recording an album of his own due for release late 2018.

In addition to music, Matthew has been trained in theatre lighting and sound and makes his own amateur films. He also enjoys riding on vintage steam trains a

October 2017 saw the formation of the Matthew Quilliam band who tour with Matthew for large scale gigs. They have since joined him onstage and been a popular addition to the show. For more details on the line up, see below.
